GENERAL INFORMATION

Cipher aims to provide writers a space to develop their narrative style and voice through an intensive collaborative process with our editors. The writing is primarily nonfiction-based, showcasing narrative journalism, creative nonfiction, and personal memoirs, with only one or two fiction pieces per block. Our magazine is also a space for artists to showcase their pieces and work closely with writers to develop visual representations of articles. Each issue is centered around a theme, and we publish four issues per year. Our hope is to share diverse voices and stories of students at CC, and we encourage pieces that break boundaries and allow the writer’s personal voice to shine through. We love vibrant, expressive work that takes us by surprise, immerses us with tone and style, and invites us to think deeper about ideas surrounding each theme. Because of that, our requirements on genre, length, and form are fairly loose, and we invite writers to be involved throughout the editing and publication process.
