General information

The Colorado Collective Outdoor Journal (CCOJ or The OJ) is CC’s outdoor-focused publication. We print once a year in the spring and publish stories on a rolling basis on our website. We only print once because we work closely with student, staff, faculty, and alumni contributors for several months to tell often deeply personal stories. By accepting essays, poetry, photography, various forms of art, a combination of mediums, and more, we allow anyone to tell their story in the way they know best. We encourage contributors to break the status quo and redefine what it means to be an explorer. We are currently working to expand the mediums we accept, host more in-person events, and be more in our community.

HISTORY

The first iteration of the CCOJ was called The Alpine Journal. Contributors told stories of alpine ascents, a largely inaccessible hobby, through writing and photos. Decades later, we revamped and renamed ourselves the Colorado College Outdoor Journal with the aim to be radically more inclusive about the stories told in our publication. We expanded to 96 pages featuring photos, writing, and art about any outdoor-focused story.

Both the Alpine Journal and Colorado College Outdoor Journal were funded through crowdsourcing and donations. Our staff was not paid until we joined Cutler Publications. We worked hard and brought a high-quality journal born of passion and commitment to our community. As of 2024, we renamed ourselves again after joining Cutler Publications to align with our values of inclusivity and be involved in our community while still working with the same passion that brought you our past publications.
